Training of specialists at the Department of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology is based on transdisciplinarity and the unity of fundamental sciences, high-tech methodologies, and a humanistic worldview. Transdisciplinarity is ensured through strong foundational training in biological, chemical, physical, engineering, and economic sciences, enabling graduates to apply their knowledge in modern research centers. The core training in modern biotechnology allows students, together with faculty members and researchers of the Institute of Biology, to engage in developments in areas such as cellular and immunobiotechnology, pharmaceutical, food, and ecobiotechnology.
Students also receive training in bioethics, biosafety, and biological risk assessment. The department hosts the scientific and production center “Biotech-Karazin,” where research is conducted on the production of functional products from fungi, microalgae, plant materials, and colostrum. The center also develops and tests pharmacological substances with hepatotropic, antiviral, and hepatoprotective properties using various experimental and clinical models.
