Admission campaign stages

Document Submission Method

Online (without traveling to Ukraine).

  • all stages of communication are conducted via the university email: inter@karazin.ua;
  • documents are submitted in scanned format;
  • admission procedures and support are provided online.

Offline (with travel to Ukraine).

  • some admission processes may be completed online;
  • a student visa is issued (if required);
  • the applicant travels to Ukraine and submits the documents in person to the Admissions Committee.

Before starting any admission procedures, the applicant must decide on their future field of study.

The applicant needs to choose:

  • degree level (Bachelor's, Master's, Medical Master's);
  • specialty or educational program;
  • language of instruction (Ukrainian or English);
  • mode of study (full-time, distance, part-time).

Document Preparation

To apply, the applicant must provide a passport, a color photograph in the official format, and an educational document (school certificate or diploma together with the transcript or grade supplement, if available).

Documents must be submitted in PDF or JPG/JPEG format. They must be clear and legible, include all pages without cropping, and clearly show the full name, date of birth, document number and issue date, seals, signatures, and grades.

Where to Obtain an Electronic Invitation

For official admission, an international applicant must obtain an electronic invitation to study.

This is done through the state system:

Receiving the Invitation

After the documents have been reviewed:

  • the university sends an educational offer;
  • the applicant accepts or declines it;
  • after accepting the offer, the applicant receives an electronic invitation to study.

IMPORTANT

The invitation is not a guarantee of admission; it is only a required step for further enrollment.

Student Visa

A student visa is not required for everyone.

Legalization and Translation

For further admission, educational documents and the passport must be properly prepared. All documents must be legally valid in Ukraine.

Required:

  • an apostille or consular legalization of educational documents (if the student does not intend to submit the original documents for the creation of a personal academic file, legalized/apostilled copies of these documents must be provided);
  • Ukrainian translations of: the diploma or its apostilled/legalized copy; the transcript/supplement or its apostilled/legalized copy; and the passport;
  • notarized certification of all translations.

List of Documents

The applicant must submit the following documents between July 19, 2026 and October 20, 2026, either in person at Room 4-74, 4 Svobody Square, Kharkiv, by post, or as scanned copies via email to inter@karazin.ua.

Required documents:

  • application form;
  • consent form for the collection, processing, and storage of personal data and participation in entrance examinations;
  • applicant questionnaire;
  • legalized educational document (or its legalized copy) and its notarized Ukrainian translation;
  • legalized transcript/supplement to the educational document (or its legalized copy) and its notarized Ukrainian translation;
  • copy of the passport and its notarized Ukrainian translation;
  • electronic invitation to study;
  • four color photographs (3 × 4 cm).

The review process takes up to 5 working days after the documents are received.

Admission to Examinations

The University Admissions Committee verifies the completeness of the documents, the accuracy of translations, and compliance with admission requirements, and then decides whether to admit the applicant to the entrance examinations or return the documents for revision.

For Bachelor's Applicants or Medical Master's Applicants

After being admitted to the entrance process, the university sends the applicant information about the date, time, and format of the entrance examination. Entrance examinations are a mandatory part of the admission competition. The examinations are conducted online via a link that will be sent to the applicant's personal email address.

The entrance examinations consist of several components:

  • language of instruction (Ukrainian or English);
  • mathematics;
  • world history;
  • one elective subject: biology, chemistry, physics, geography, Ukrainian literature, or a foreign language.

The results of the entrance examination are taken into account during the competitive selection process.

After completing the entrance examinations, the University Admissions Committee reviews the applicant's results.

If the applicant successfully passes the competitive selection process, the university sends a notification regarding the possibility of enrollment.

Confirmation of Study

After receiving a positive admission decision, the applicant must confirm that they have chosen to study at our university and agree to enroll in the selected educational program (a sample confirmation form will be sent by email).

Contracts

The following documents must be signed by October 29, 2026:

  • education agreement;
  • agreement on payment for educational services.

If tuition is paid by another individual (representative) or an organization, the contract may also be concluded with the individual or legal entity responsible for the payment.

After successfully completing all stages, the university issues an enrollment order admitting the applicant to study.

The enrollment order is issued provided that the applicant has:

  • submitted all required documents;
  • successfully passed the entrance examinations;
  • passed the competitive selection process;
  • confirmed the choice of study place;
  • signed the required agreements.

Payment

Within the period specified in the agreement, the student must make the required payment.

It is important to pay tuition fees within the established deadlines, as late payment may affect the student's further studies.

Submission of Original Documents

If the applicant submitted documents online, then after successful admission, but no later than December 15, 2026, they must provide the university (in person, by postal service, or by any other convenient means) with the following documents:

  • the legalized original diploma/school certificate (or its legalized copy);
  • the legalized original transcript/supplement to the educational document (or its legalized copy);
  • notarized Ukrainian translations of the passport and educational documents.

Recognition of Foreign Educational Documents in Ukraine (Nostrification)

Educational documents issued in another country must undergo the recognition procedure in Ukraine. This is required to confirm that the student's previous education meets the requirements of Ukrainian legislation. The recognition procedure must be completed during the first year of study, specifically by June 30, 2027. Without completing this stage, the previous educational documents will not be fully recognized for study in Ukraine, which may affect the student's ability to continue studies and obtain a diploma.

To begin the admission procedure, you need to prepare a package of documents and create an electronic account on the apply.studyinukraine.gov.ua portal.

Prepare for upload to the portal:

  • passport document or identity document (translated into Ukrainian and notarized)
  • education document and supplement (with legalization — apostille or consular certification)
  • academic transcript issued by a foreign or Ukrainian higher education institution
  • photo (color digital facial image)

Application submission

After uploading the documents, you must submit an application and pay the service fee through the portal. The number of applications for generating an electronic invitation cannot exceed 20.

The university verifies the documents and sends the applicant an educational offer.

Receiving the invitation

After the applicant accepts the educational offer, an electronic invitation to study is issued, valid for 6 months. International students planning onsite study must contact the Ukrainian embassy in their country to obtain a student visa.

Recognition of education documents

Education documents of international students issued by educational institutions of other countries must undergo a recognition and equivalency procedure in accordance with Order No. 504 of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine dated 05.05.2015.

Important: unlike first-year enrollment, for reinstatement the recognition procedure for the education document and academic transcript is carried out before reinstatement to study.

Interview

The interview is conducted at the relevant faculty or educational-scientific institute to assess the applicant's ability to successfully complete the educational program.

If the applicant receives a negative assessment regarding their ability to successfully complete the program, reinstatement may be denied.

If reinstatement is to an educational program in another specialty or from a foreign higher education institution (regardless of specialty), passing an entrance examination is additionally mandatory.

  • mathematics

  • subject of choice: biology, geography, physics, chemistry, Ukrainian literature, or foreign language (English, German, French, Spanish)

The exam consists of four components:

  • specialty exam (within the master's higher education standard);
  • language of instruction exam (Ukrainian or English);
  • presentation of research proposals;
  • additional specialty exam — for applicants entering PhD studies from another field of knowledge (NQF 7).

All exams may be conducted onsite or remotely with mandatory video recording.

Study contract

After the admissions committee decides to recommend enrollment, a study contract is concluded between the university and the applicant. The contract may be signed onsite or remotely.

Financial obligations

International students reinstated at the expense of individuals and/or legal entities are required before reinstatement to sign a contract for paid educational services and make payment no later than 14 calendar days from the date of the relevant order.

All international students staying in Ukraine during their studies are required to obtain a temporary residence permit in accordance with current legislation.
